Bettmeralp Bahnen AG has been certified in accordance with the DIN standard ISO 14001 since 2005 and invests considerable amounts in environmental protection every year.
Forest and wildlife protection
With the help of forest wardens and biologists, Bettmeralp Bahnen AG has been working to maintain a clearly defined forest and wildlife protection zone for years. The designated protection zones are cordoned off and clearly marked (e.g. in the winter price guide).
Land restoration
There has been a fair amount of damage to the landscape in the past partly due to new buildings and partly due to natural forces. The cableway company has been making efforts to rectify this damage in as natural a way as possible.
As a compensatory measure for the construction of the new Blausee 4-person chairlift, Bettmeralp Bahnen AG has made a financial contribution of CHF 30,000 to the "altes Betten" restoration trust.
Every year, environmentally damaging buildings and projects from the past are gradually cleaned up and renovated.
Environmental construction supervision
When buildings are constructed from scratch or rebuilt, environmental and planning agencies are called in to assist with project supervision. When the work is finished, these agencies draw up a report on the construction supervision and the effectiveness of the measures undertaken.
Vehicle fleet
In accordance with the declaration of intent signed by the management board of Bettmeralp Bahnen AG and following the recommendation of the Swiss Cableways Association SBS, our company only purchases snow groomers fitted with diesel particulate filters.
Visions for the future
Due to the current energy situation, Bettmeralp Bahnen AG will also be placing greater emphasis on alternative energy sources in the future (as already demonstrated by the Bettmerhorn mountain restaurant project).
The mountain cableways in the Aletsch region are aware that tourism can only be effective in the long run when efforts are made to preserve the environment.
